The Dickens Festival in Lemmer

For the 6th time in history, the Lemster Dickens Festival will take place on December 14 and 15, 2024. This, mainly open-air festival, is an historical event for the entire family. Travel back in time to the 19th century, to the time when Charles Dickens lived. Enjoy the street theatre, choirs, the Christmas market and many snacks in and around the centre of Lemmer in Friesland.

THE TIME OF BEFORE

Meet with for instance; the fisherman’s wife’s, children, rag farmers and the brave citizens from the time of Charles Dickens. Let yourself be enchanted by the songs, scenery and decorations of times gone by. Walk through the beautifully decoraded center of Lemmer amongst the dressed-up citizens. Walk around the Christmas market and listen to the choirs sing, Christmas carols. The street theatre goes live and there will also be an old farmers and cattle market.

WHO WAS CHARLES DICKENS?

Born in London in 1812, (died in 1870), Charles (John Huffam) Dickens was one of the most important English writers during the Victorian era. He wrote about social failures, story building and cartoonish characters. His most famous books are David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, a tale of two cities and a Christmas Carol. During the Dickens festival in Lemmer, you can meet the characters from his books.

TICKETS
  • Tickets are available in various Lemster stores and on the website.
  • Considering the popularity of the festival it is recommended to leave your dog at home.
PARKING

Parking spots will be marked. A shuttle bus will bring you to the center of Lemmer for only € 1 per person. Please take care you have cash with you as there is no possibility to use your bank card to pay for the bus ticket.
